DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was wondering if there is a way to get or buy just the fliers and coupons that come in the Sun Journal? Thank you. — Debra via email

ANSWER: You must buy the paper to get the coupons and other advertisements. Considering how much you save, the $1.75 price of the paper seems quite reasonable to Sun Spots. And you get to keep up on the news and read the comics!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was wondering what is done with the Sun Journal’s unused Sunday papers, especially the coupons? — Kelly via email

ANSWER: Unused papers are recycled and then made into new paper. This includes the coupons.

The Sun Journal cannot just give away the extra fliers. Newspapers are paid for placing ads based on circulation. It would not be fair to either the advertiser or to the Sun Journal to give away extra ads. The paper is, in fact, required to ensure that all unsold copies are destroyed.

The other day in the Augusta Hannaford Sun Spots saw someone stealing the ads out of the Kennebec Journal. This woman was very blatant about it, so Sun Spots will give her the benefit of the doubt that she didn’t know she was stealing, but she was.

The next customer that comes along will not want to buy that paper because it doesn’t have the ads, so the store will return it to the KJ, which will take a loss in both revenue and circulation.
