ANDOVER — Nearly 40 residents decided Thursday night to explore options to keep the Andover Elementary School open.
Four committees approved to study options are: Stay in RSU 44 Committee, Move to RSU 10 Committee, Charter Committee and Go On Our Own Committee.
They will bring their findings to residents, who will vote their preferences.
Also established Thursday were a Publicity Committee, After-School Activity Committee and Contractor Day Committee.
“The committees’ research timetable is open-ended,” Heather O’Leary of the Save/Recreate Andover Elementary School Committee said. “But we need to have the vote within three months, which is the deadline for the stay-in-RSU 44 option.”
The RSU 44 board voted this year to close the school to save an estimated $214,000 and send the approximately 20 students in grades kindergarten to five to Crescent Park School in Bethel in the fall.
Andover residents are trying to raise the $214,000 to pay to keep it open.
“We have about $5,000 pledged so far,” O’Leary said. “We have just landed a major donation from an Andover business which we will receive next Thursday.”
