AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Gov. Paul LePage’s former communications director has started his own public relations and political consulting firm.

Dan Demeritt was LePage’s communications director from January to April, when he resigned after his personal financial problems became public.

He has now started a firm called Winning Initiatives.

Demeritt tells the Portland Press Herald he has one client, whom he wouldn’t name. He says he’ll focus on developing “campaign-style” initiatives at the grass-roots level, and would like to help some Republican legislators win re-election.

Demeritt was LePage’s press secretary during his gubernatorial campaign last fall, and was once communications director for Maine House Republicans.
