WINSLOW — The Lewiston Her-ricanes took home the runner-up trophy from a recent U-10 ASA state tournament. The team was put together in a matter of a couple of weeks and entered the tournament at the last minute after only two practices together.

Tournament play started on the night of Friday, June 17. After defeating both Waterville and Old Town by shutout, Lewiston went on to play Saturday morning against Skowhegan, winning that game 7-3. Later that day, the Her-ricanes beat out Brewer for a 3-2 victory, with a game saving double play at home plate to lock a spot in the championship game.

The Her-ricanes showed up Sunday morning not knowing what to expect. They were playing the reigning state champs, the Southern Maine Flames. The Her-ricanes lost the first game to the Flames, 8-6, but because that was their first loss all weekend, they got another chance at the title.

After a half-hour break, the two teams played again. The Flames went on to defeat the Her-ricanes 3-2.

The Lewiston Her-ricanes are: Eliza Beaudin, Danielle Cyr, Jordan Girouard, Meagan Gosselin, Kallie May, Madison Mercier, Meghan Morris, Emily Mousseau, Jordan Mynahan, Lexi Poulin and Megan Theriault. They are coached by Mitch Poulin, Rhonda Mynahan and Bill Mousseau.
