AUBURN — Walmart, seeded seventh out of seven teams in the New Auburn Little League major division, defeated three teams to win the league championship.
Walmart started with a 17-2 rout of VFW. Ben Harris, Zac Couillard and Brandon Asselin were the pitching stars, while Harris, Coulliard and Cobey Bullock led the hitting attack.
In the next round, Walmart shut out defending champion Hammond Lumber, 10-0, behind a no hitter from Ben Harris. Kobe Humason-Fulgham dropped a key bunt to get the scoring going. Alex Beliveau had some great at bats, and Zion Gurney made a key catch in center field to help ice the win. Michael Parshall also made a nice grab at second base. Gurney had a big night at the plate.
In the championship game, Walmart defeated top seed IRC, 7-3. Couillard, Gurney and Asselin combined to shut down the Roofers. Asselin closed out the win with a strikeout.
Gabriel Lovering and Ryan Theriault each had great at bats for Walmart and played alert defense. Harris capped a great four years with a towering home run to left field that padded the lead in the third inning. It was his fifth round-tripper of the season.
