Central Maine Federal Credit Union has awarded its Summer Reading Grant to the Auburn Public Library. The $500 grant is awarded to programs that encourage reading and literacy in children during the summer months. The Auburn Public Library was selected for its “One World, Many Stories” 2011 summer reading program. Through the program, the infamous story time puppet, Pinecone Pete, will travel the world looking for interesting places and fascinating stories to share with the children. The grant will enable the Auburn Public Library to purchase a world map, books and prizes for the participants. In the photo above, Jim Wilkins, development director for the library, Vicki Stuart, CEO of Central Maine Credit Union, and Deb Cleveland, Children’s Services director for the library, hold the check.
