OTISFIELD — Volunteers are hard at work organizing the Otisfield Fourth of July parade scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 4.

This year’s Grand Marshall is Barbara Maguire. Maguire is co-chairwoman for the local Christmas for Kids program and also volunteers her time for the annual Otisfield Christmas dinner that precedes the town Christmas tree lighting. Maguire is the head custodian at Otisfield Community School. She volunteers after school for the gardening club, was instrumental in creating a veterans’ memorial garden at the school and maintains school gardens.

The festivities begin at 7:30 a.m. with a free community breakfast at the Spurrs Corner Church with help from the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church. The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, fresh fruit, muffins, coffee and juice.

Once again there will be a bake sale. Items for the bake sale are welcome and may be dropped off at the Spurrs Corner Fire Station the morning of the parade. There will also be plenty of pies to buy in addition to the annual pie contest. There are two pie contests – Mom’s Apple Pie and Family Favorites. Bake your pies in a disposable pan, labeled with the type of pie, your name and telephone number.

After winners are announced, all pies will be sold to raise funds for the Otisfield Fire Association. Pie donations to raise funds are welcomed and do not have to be submitted in either contest. For more information call George Galarneau at 627-4314. Ribbons as well as prizes will be given to winners in both categories.

Parade setup starts at 9 a.m. south of Spurr’s Corner Fire Station on Route 121 in Cutler’s field. Parade time is 10 a.m. and it leads to the Spurr’s Corner Fire Station. 2011 Otisfield Fourth of July T-shirts, adult and children sizes, will be available for purchase at the fire station. The fun continues at the fire station following the parade with a Fourth of July, red, white and blue water salute by the fire department, music, pie contest and free popsicles, watermelon and water.
