AUBURN š— The NAPA Auto Parts men’s softball team won the battle of unbeatens in the Auburn Rec Players lower division, squeezing out a 4-3 victory over the Brew Crew in a surprising defensive struggle.

Peter Boyd scored first for NAPA on an RBI double by Tom Day in the top of the first. Day added another RBI with a four-base award (the ball bounced off the left fielder’s glove over the fence) in the fourth.

In the fifth inning, Clay Phillips scored on an RBI single by Terry Goguen. NAPA wrapped up its scoring with a run by Anthony Clark in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Tom Day.

The Brew Crew entered the bottom of the sixth down by four runs before scoring two, then another in the seventh, to make it a nailbiter.

Day went 2-for-2 with three RBI. Phillips helped out with a 3-for-3 performance and a run scored. Boyd went 2-for-3 with a double, and Goguen was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

NAPA hopes to continue its winning ways against Riverview Dental (4-1) at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at Pettingill Park, and again Thursday against the L/A Fire (0-5) at Lakeview No. 2.
