AUBURN — Rosi Elke Chicoine, 64, of 26 Chicoine Ave., Auburn, died at her home with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, June 22, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Marburg an der Lahn, Germany, Oct. 14, 1946, the daughter of the late Johann and Agnes Nelieus Lieser. Educated in German schools, she emigrated to the United States, and in June 1979 married Rene Chicoine of Lewiston.
Rosi was a hard worker employed by several dry cleaners, including Leblanc’s and John’s Place. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, and especially cherished time spent at their camp on Gull Pond in Rangeley.
While in better health, Rosi enjoyed X-country skiing, four-wheeling and entertaining family and friends in Rangeley. She also relished her travels back to her native Germany and loved her recent trip to the U.S. Open in New York with Rene.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Nancy Scruggs and husband, Shawn Ruskill, of Auburn; two stepsons, Ronald Chicoine and Jeff Chicoine and wife, Kristin, of Lewiston; a stepdaughter, Wendy and husband, Tim Poutre, of Stratham, N.H.; a sister, Lydia Ellrich of Germany; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild on the way; and several nieces and nephews in Germany.
Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Susanne Apple and Gundi Cochran; and a stepdaughter-in-law, Juli Paradis Chicoine.
Her family thanks the staffs of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and the Radiation Department of Central Maine Medical Center for the loving care they gave her, and especially her dedicated caregivers, Heather Trainer and Sheryl Sanipass. Rosi’s big heart and love of fun will be greatly missed by close friends and family alike.
