Director’s Dish:

Each day, we are offered the opportunity for a new beginning – a fresh start. I’ll not soon forget the day that I was honored by being chosen to serve as the new Executive Director of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. This is indeed a new beginning – a fresh start – for all of us, and a welcomed challenge for me personally.

As I begin this new venture, I am continually impressed by what a dynamic, diverse, inspiring and caring community we are a part of in Franklin County. In making this transition, I have received a tremendous amount of support and well wishes. Thank you, members, for your understanding, friendship and support.

My background is in education, and most recently working with and being part of non-profit service organizations. My latest tenure with the United Way of the Tri-Valley Area has honed my organizational and people skills, along with allowing me to become even more familiar with our community’s needs and successes.

In my new role, I am charged with bringing recognition to and promoting business in a region that prides itself on its rural atmosphere, agricultural charm, and local attractions such as the Blueberry Festival and Kingfield Pops. I believe that the Chamber offers an invaluable service to our members, sponsors and community, and I hope that my energy and enthusiasm will be contagious as we continue our direction toward growth and better serving our members.

While the pace is slower here, a Chamber, wherever located, is a central point that joins all parts of a community together. With a mere few days into my new position, I hope to soon begin working with not only the business community, but also with area residents, town, county and school officials. I wholeheartedly believe that together, we can achieve greatness.

I will continue meeting with members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors for input on the organization’s current and future direction, but am pleased with the amount of support and confidence they have instilled in my capabilities. I will work hard to maximize the effects of the Chamber by collaborating with other local organizations and incorporating more services that bolster the vitality of the community as a whole. I believe I can apply much of what has been working historically, but am looking to bring new programs on board and revitalize existing services to strengthen the community and the value of membership.

I look forward to getting out into the community to meet all of you personally over the next several months. I am eager to learn more about the services you offer and your organizational goals, and to gather feedback about how you see the Chamber as a partner in your efforts.

Keep in mind, change offers us opportunities that we have yet to imagine!
