2011 Chamber Scholarship Recipients

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce has awarded $1,000 scholarships to two of the area’s exemplary students; Elizabeth LeClair of Wilton, and Kelly Greene of West Farmington. Local high school seniors and non-traditional students were encouraged to apply in early spring of 2011. The scholarships were granted after a Committee review of each applicant’s history of community involvement, academic performance, and essay submission.

The Chamber received a number of applications from many stand out individuals, and wishes to encourage those who qualify to apply again next year. However, Elizabeth and Kelly deserve special recognition for the tremendous work they have been doing in the community while striving for excellence in their personal and professional lives.

Elizabeth has held herself to a very high standard while attending Mt. Blue High School. Not only a member of various clubs and organizations, such as Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, and the Franklin County Fiddlers, Elizabeth has also remained very involved in athletics, as a coach, captain, and dancer. During her senior year, she enrolled in the Commercial Arts and Photography program at the Foster Technology Center, where she developed her love for graphic design. In the fall, Elizabeth will be attending Lasell College in MA, and aspires to return to the area after graduating to open her own advertising business.

Kelly Greene is currently enrolled with the University of Maine at Farmington. Kelly is a member of the Healthy Community Coalition Board of Directors, has served as a youth counselor and fitness instructor, been involved with Saddleback Mtn. as an intern with their Events and Marketing program, knows the world of retail through her work with the Calico Patch, and continues to work on various community initiatives through UMF. Over the summer, Kelly will use her acquired skills to facilitate outdoor recreation trips for community members through the UMF Fitness & Recreation Center. She looks forward to continuing to make a positive impact on the region.
