RUMFORD — Raymond R. Berryment, 78, of Royal Lane, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 28, at his residence, joining his beloved wife, Jean.

He was born in Bryant Pond, Aug. 8, 1932, a son of Herbert E. and Hazel A. (Rogers) Berryment Sr.

Ray retired after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Pacific, Europe, and the Far East.

After retiring from the Air Force, he returned to Maine with his wife Jean and their three children, and was employed in Administration at Rumford Community Hospital for 20 years.

Ray was a member of the American Legion Post No. 24, the VFW Post No. 1641, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 1248, the Snowshoe Club and the Oakdale Country Club.

He enjoyed playing golf and spending time on his computer.

Surviving are his children, Wayne R. Berryment and partner, William T. Chaney, of Gray, Jody D. (Berryment) Sutherland of Denver, Colo., and Scott D. Berryment and wife, Lynda, of Dixfield; five grandchildren, Ashley Sutherland, Sarah Sutherland, Christopher Berryment, Diana Berryment and Cody Berryment; and a special friend, Jeannette White.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Jean; and two brothers, Herbert “Sonny” Berryment and Thomas Berryment.
