AUBURN — The Rev. Michael Johnson will offer the message and preside at the annual Penley Corner Church all-faith service, to be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 10. All are welcome.

Pastor Johnson, a New England native, has had a long career in ministry since the 1960s and was formerly ordained in 1994 upon graduation from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in California. The son of Captain Carl Johnson, USCG, he traveled across the nation many times and has lived in more than 30 countries as student, Peace Corps volunteer and missionary.

He is currently serving as part-time pastor of the First Congregational Church of Durham and continues his dual career in the field of mental health with Lutheran Social Services.

“I have chosen to work in rural settings in spite of decreased compensation as many will not serve in these areas. The Word of God is still needed everywhere,” Johnson said. Past placements have included being director for both Outreach ministries in Arizona and religious education for a New York inner city Anglo-Hispanic parish, program manager for the mentally handicapped in Massachusetts and as a crisis counselor in Portland.
