LISBON — No injuries were reported and loss was estimated at $50,000 in an early-morning garage fire of “undetermined origin” Thursday at 11 Grandview St.

The fire was spotted shortly after 5 a.m. by a passing motorist who drove to the police station to report it. The blaze started on the first floor of the 50- by 70-foot, wood-frame structure and had spread to a second-floor apartment when firefighters arrived.

For a time, it was believed there were unaccounted-for occupants in the apartment, but further investigation by Fire Chief Sean Galipeau determined that the occupant/owners, Jessica and Anthony Riordan, actually lived in an adjoining house 50 feet from the garage. Only Jessica Riordan was home at the time. Several chickens were lost, but no firefighters were injured.

The house was not damaged, Deputy Fire Chief Mike Robitaille said.
