100 years ago, 1911

While sailing near the intake of the waterworks at Lake Auburn a few days ago, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Hicks and others in the boat saw a big hedge hog running along the shore close to the waters edge. Back farther in the state, this animal is often seen but seldom so near the cities as Lake Auburn.

50 years ago, 1961

Notification that the Federal Communications Commission has granted transfer of the construction permit of WCBB, Channel 10, from Bates College to the Colby-Bates-Bowdoin Educational Telecasting Corporation has been received with gratitude and pleasure by the presidents of the three colleges.

Bates public relations director Arthur Griffith said that there will be no local broadcasts. The station will be equipped to transmit from film, videotape or the ETV network, which originates with Channel 2 at Boston.

25 years ago, 1986

TURNER — The Maine Department of Transportation is seeking permission from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to dredge and fill below ordinary high water in conjunction with the construction of a new bridge and relocation of a highway across the Nezinscot River in Turner. The proposed project will increase roadway capacity and enhance highway safety.
