AUGUSTA — James R. Sebra Sr., 80, of Lisbon Falls died Thursday, June 30, at Maine VA Medical Center.

He was born in Rehoboth Church, Va., Jan. 30, 1931, a son of the late John R. and Cora M. Sebra. James grew up in Northumberland County and Lancaster County. He was raised by his older sister, Emma and her husband, Edward Beane, until he went into the Army.

James worked on a farm until he served in Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He then worked various shipyards such as Newport News shipyard and Dry Dock Co. in Virginia, as well as the Kittery Naval Shipyard and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

James retired from BIW after 28 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 158, VFW Post 9459, Slovak Club, and the Left Hand Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family; doing yard care, playing cards, planning parties, planting flowers, decorating on holidays, collecting knives and trains. He also enjoyed barbecuing and cooking on the grill.

James leaves behind his wife, Earleen Sebra of Lisbon Falls; her children, Tammy McDaniel and her husband, Jake, of Lisbon Falls; three sons, James R. Sebra Jr. and his wife, Juliana, of Chesapeake, Va., Timothy Sebra and his wife, Diane, of Tehachapi, Calif., and Dale Sebra of Minot; sisters, Marie Shiver and her husband, Al, of Lancaster, Va., Catherine Ashburn of Kilmarnock, Va., Thelma Rowe and Harry, of White Stone, Va., Peggy Gill Lancaster, Va., Alice Oliver and husband, James, of Lancaster, Va., Delma Gorden Rose Weems of Virginia; a brother, Franklin Vernon Sebra of Newport News, Va.; grandchildren, Garrett and Rebeckah Sebra of Tehachapi, Calif., Brook and Rodney Richie Sabattus, Trevor and Katelyn McDaniel of Lisbon Falls, Berry Pomerleau Jr. of Lisbon Falls, Krissy Pomerleau of Lowell, Mass., Brandon Keith-Willams of Lisbon and Josh Gross of Lisbon Falls; a great-grandson, Cody Leblanc of Wyoming; James will also be missed by his nine stepgrandchildren; and extended family members.

He was predeceased by his siblings, John William Sebra, Robert Philmore Sebra, Harry Eldon Sebra and Emma Elnora Sebra Beane; his adopted daughter, Jayna Ritchie; and his granddaughter, Lisa Sebra of Casper, Wy.
