100 years ago, 1911

Authorities at both hospitals have requested this year that small boys and others old enough to know better be considerate in the use of explosives in the vicinity of the hospitals. Already no little disturbance has been caused the patients on that account. Automobiles, which take advantage of the new pavements near the C.M.G. Hospital for speeding, have also caused much annoyance as the engines make considerable noise in taking the grade by the hospital buildings.

50 years ago, 1961

The American Linen Supply Co., 150 Summer St., Lewiston, operated by the Orestis family of Lewiston since 1921, has been sold to the Connors brothers of Boston and Portland, with the deal reported to involve about one-third million dollars.

American Linen Supply Co., the largest independent linen supply company in northern New England, was founded by William Orestis of 113 Walnut St., Lewiston, in 1921, when he used a horse and wagon to make pickups and deliveries.

25 years ago, 1986

Delia Lamore, age 8, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Lamore of Auburn, has been selected as a participant in the 1986 Maine Junior Star Pageant, which is the official state preliminary to the National Little/ Junior Star Pageant. The state pageant will be held Aug. 2 at the Augusta Civic Center and the host hotel will be Howard Johnson’s at Augusta.
