BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) — An effort to protect 97 acres of Maine coast land in Biddeford is coming down to the wire.
A variety of public and private conservation groups remain $1.6 million short of the $5.1 million purchase price for the land off Granite Point Road and a small island near the mouth of the Little River.
If the final amount is not raised by Sept. 15, the property could be listed for sale on the private market.
Wolfe Tone of The Trust for Public Land says he’s working under a sense of urgency, but he remains confident the money will be raised.
The Portland Press Herald says the plan is for the property to become part of the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge’s Little River Division.
