AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library has announced the following July events for teens.
Library hours are Mondays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For program information or registration call 333-6640 or visit www.auburnpubliclibrary.org.
Teen Anime Club: Wednesdays, July 6 and 20, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. Each month, teen anime fans gather at APL to read, talk, draw and watch all things anime. Refreshments are served.
Teen Gaming: Wednesday, July 13, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. All teens are welcome to play PS2 games.
Teen Open Mic: Friday, July 15, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. Teen singers, musicians, comics and spoken-word poets are invited. Performers sign up at 5:30. Teen Critic’s Corner: Monday, July 18, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. Victoria Williams of Safe Voices and Molly Nelson of the Sexual Abuse Crisis Center need your opinion on short films that address issues of gender, relationships, sex and personal safety. Following each film there will be a discussion facilitated by Victoria and Molly. After filling out a brief survey, names will be put in for a free movie ticket to Flagship Cinema. Refreshments.
Make A Zombie Doll Craft Workshop: Saturday, July 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Library Conference Room. All materials will be provided, and pizza will be served. Those attending will also be entered into an end-of-summer drawing for the Teen Summer Reading grand prize, a new laptop computer. Space is limited; advance registration is required. Concert on the Green: An Evening with Tricky Britches: This free, all-family bluegrass concert will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 25, on the library lawn. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to sit on (seating will not be provided). In the event of bad weather, the concert will be held indoors in the Androscoggin Community Room.
Visit with Safe Voices Community Educator Victoria Williams: Monday, July 25, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Teen Space. On the last Monday of each month, Safe Voices Community Educator Victoria Williams drops in to visit with teens and discuss wellness and relationship issues.
Workshop: Job Search Skills: Tuesday, July 26, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Library Conference Room. Learn how to conduct an effective job search by understanding how employers advertise and which search methods lead to success. This workshop is presented by the Lewiston Career Center and Auburn Public Library. The workshop is free, but space is limited and advance registration is required. Teens & Young Adults: Job Corps in Maine: Wednesday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Androscoggin Community Room. Jill Moody of the Maine Job Corps visits to explain how the program works and who is eligible. To register, call the library reference desk at 333-6640, ext. 4.
Workshop: Resumes and Interviews: Wednesday, July 27, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Conference Room. Learn the do’s and don’ts of the application process, including how to make your resume stand out, how to market yourself in a way that matches your skills to an employer’s needs and how to answer tough interview questions. This workshop is presented by the Lewiston Career Center and Auburn Public Library. The workshop is free, but space is limited and advance registration is required. Teen Movie: Wednesday, July 27, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room. Those attending will vote on which movie we’ll watch from three or four available choices. All teens are welcome.
