BOOTHBAY HARBOR — The Winthrop Red Sox downed the Downeast Dodgers, 13-11, under the lights in Pine Tree League senior baseball.
Max Arsenault staked the Dodgers to an early lead with a three-run blast to right center field in the first inning.
But Winthrop (4-5) exploded for 11 runs in the fifthto take a 13-5 lead.
Downeast cut the lead to two runs in the seventh, sparked by a Brian Carver solo shot to center and a bases-loaded double by Kevin Oliveira.
Winthrop pitcher Jim Morris, who went the distance, walked the bases loaded in the ninth after the first out. With the winning run at first base, Oliveira hit into a game ending 6-4-3 double play, preserving the win for Morris and the Sox.
Eric Matzell and Steve Curtain were multiple hitters for the Dodgers (2-6). Mike House, Ian McCarthy, Tavis Hasenfus and Jeff Morris repeated for the Sox.
