SOUTH PARIS — Jose W. Arroyo, 50, died unexpectedly in his sleep of cardiac failure on Tuesday, July 5.

He was born March 28, 1961, in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, the son of Ramona Gonzalez. Jose grew up in Boston and went to Boston High School. He came to Maine many years ago and made his home here.

Family was very important to Jose and he loved his children and family very much. Jose enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and traveling, camping, racing and was an avid fan of the Miami Hurricanes football team. He also had numerous models and would spend hours working on them with his son AJ. He was fond of taking his daughter Jodi fishing. In recent years, he had worked hard to rebuild fragile relationships with all his children, whom he loved.

Jose had a very strong faith and belief in Jesus. He was baptized in Lewiston at the United Baptist Church and his faith brought him through many trials in his life. His belief was that he would spend eternity in Heaven with his Savior and Protector.

He leaves behind his mother, Ramona of Boston, Mass.; brothers, Daniel Arroyo and family, of Boston, Mass., and Ramon Burgos and children, also of Boston, Mass., and Wilson Arroyo and son, Nicholas, of Maine; children, Jose Jr. and Angelina of Massachusetts, Eric of Lewiston, Jodi and Kristie of Maine, and Anthony J. and Samantha of Auburn; many nieces and nephews and extended family; Linda, Rita, Marcy and Tina — the mothers of his children; also best friends, Al Rizza and family of Pittsfield and Jimmy Bryant and family of Oxford; he also leaves behind many longtime friends, including Patty.
