NORWAY — Maine humorist Tim Sample, who averages about 60 concert and after-dinner appearances per year, will be at Book N Things on Saturday, July 9.

Also appearing will be Steve Mither, who with Sample co-authored the third edition of “Maine Curiosities.”

Sample, who was born and raised in Maine, recorded his first album of Down East humor in 1979. It was produced by Noel Paul Stookey of famed folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, with liner notes by humorist Marshall Dodge, who with his partner, Rev. Robert Bryan, created the world-famous “Bert and I” recordings back in the 1950s.

After Dodge’s death, Sample recorded four albums and a video for the “Bert and I” company. Sample and Bryan have collaborated on several TV specials and the popular recording “How to Talk Yankee.”

Sample has written and/or illustrated more than a dozen books. His TV appearances include “The Today Show” and “Good Morning America,” and he has narrated award-winning films and books on tape, including Robert McCloskey’s children’s classic “Bert Dow Deep Water Man” and Stephen King’s “The Sun Dog.”

Over the years, Sample has performed in venues as diverse as the Los Angeles Convention Center, the Mall of America, the New York Yacht Club and the Caribou Performing Arts Center.

Sample will be at the book store at 430 Main St. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 739-6200.
