Goodwill Industries of Northern New England received AmeriCorps grant funds from the Corporation for National and Community Service totaling $790,000. The grant will support more than 90 AmeriCorps members in two programs, the Emergency Response Corps and the Great Strides Rural Education Corps, across Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Emergency Response Corps AmeriCorps members will recruit and support volunteers while serving as EMTs and firefighters in rural ambulance and fire stations resulting in an increased capability of the host sites to respond to emergency calls in 11 communities in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. Maine sites are in the following locations: Searsport Ambulance, St. George Fire Department, St. George Ambulance, LifeFlight of Maine, Islesford EMS and NorthStar EMS-Farmington.
Great Strides Rural Education Corps AmeriCorps members will provide mentoring and academic support services addressing at-risk middle and high school students in rural communities in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Maine sites include the following locations: Telstar High School (Bethel), Greenville Schools (Greenville) and Jordan Small School (Raymond).
