AUBURN — The Cub Scouts of Pack 111 worked toward their National Conservation Award by improving the trail at Mount Apatite Park on Saturday, June 11.

With the approval of Mike Bolduc, recreational director for the city of Auburn, 15 Cub Scouts and 16 parents worked to transform a muddy section of the trail into a dry path. The Cub Scouts dug more than 100 feet of ditches, reinforced the sides with logs and lined the bottoms with rocks, all to prevent erosion and keep water off the trail. They also created a causeway with nearby rocks. The finished trail provides a dry pathway for hikers and bikers.

The Cub Scouts of pack 111 and the Androscoggin Land Trust hope to collaborate on yearly ventures in Auburn trail work.

The Cub Scouts who participated were Andrew Herrick, Donovan Shaw, Noah Phillips, Leo Caron, Tyler Cornish, Thomas Brann, Brody Phinney, Nolan Kay, Casey Burhoe, Christian Beliveau, Matt Trischler, Spencer Dowd, Elliot Dowd, Ian Brown and Ethan Brown.

The parents included John Herrick, Tracy Herrick, Julie Shaw, Frank Phillips, Kathie Phillips, Josh Caron, Sarah Cornish, Aileen Wheeler, Keith Brann, Quentin Phinney, Bill Kay, Blaine Burhoe, Leo Beliveau, Matt Trischler, Millard Dowd and Brian Brown.
