Born in Fort Kent Feb. 15, 1925, a son of the late Omer and Eva Dumond, he was educated in Fort Kent schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, and was a prisoner of war in Germany until his release on Nov. 5, 1945. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Medal, Eastern Campaign Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Silver Star Honorable Service Medal. He was married May 3, 1942 to the former Yvette Vermette. She died May 8, 2008.

He and his wife owned and operated a grocery store and later started Maurice Daigle Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of The Prince of Peace Parish at The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council 106, Lewiston, and American Legion Post 22 of Lewiston.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, camping and spending time in Rangeley. He loved to spend time with his family and traveling with his beloved wife, Yvette.

He will be remembered as a caring and generous man to his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Shirley Paradis and husband, Raymond, of Glendale, Ariz., Claudette S. Heutz and husband, Normand, of Lewiston, his son, Ronald R. Daigle and wife, Carmelle, of Lewiston; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Kenneth and Bev Paradis, Raeann and Dino Krallis, Greg and Monica Paradis, Michelle and Chad Alexander, Scott Paradis, John and Kelly Heutz, Sandra Heutz-Lee and Mark Lee, Steven and Shannon Daigle, Thomas and Nicole Daigle; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Priscilla Viens and husband, Fernand, of Bristol Conn., Alice Vaillancourt and husband, Gerard, of Lewiston, Marilyn Gagnon and husband, Armand, of Lewiston; four brothers, Reynolds and his wife, Claire Daigle, of Enfield, Conn., Vernon Daigle of Lewiston, Lawrence and his wife, Anita Daigle, of Auburn, Albert and his wife, Flo, of Rumney, N.H.; two sisters-in-law, Rose Daigle, of Worcester, Mass., Romelle Daigle of Windsor Locks, Conn.

He was also predeceased by his sister, Pauline Gagnon; and his brothers, Normand, Donald and Stanley Daigle.
