Republicans meet
BETHEL — Maine Attorney General William J. Schneider will be the featured speaker at the annual Oxford County Committee picnic to be held at Bethel Town Committee’s Secretary Stan Howe’s house at 18 Broad St. on Tuesday, July 12. There will be a 5:30 p.m. social hour and 6:30 p.m. picnic dinner followed by Schneider’s remarks. There will also be an update on the recent Maine Legislature session by Oxford County legislators. All Oxford County Republicans are invited.
Supper dance
LOCKE MILLS — A supper dance will be held from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the American Legion Hall. Doors open at 4 p.m. Music by the Wally Jones Band. Adults $10 and children $3.
Class of 1953
MEXICO — Members of the Stephens High School Class of 1953 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at the Covered Wagon. For more information, call Isabel Duguay at 562-4241.
Historical group
WATERFORD — The Waterford Historical Society will meet at the Old Town House next to Keoka Lake for its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14. There will be potluck refreshments. The program will be on artists who used to visit and paint in the Waterford area, including Pearl Starbird, whose work will be on display, and Ethel Dana, who summered on Bear Pond in the 1940s.
There will be some surprises and recollections of other artists from the membership.
Artwork of these summer vacationists will be on display also during the WHS Open House on Waterford Music Sunday, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. July 31, following the Congregational Church concert. The New Research Room will be shown that day, as well as an open house at the library, which celebrates the centennial of the Waterford Library.
Other programs coming up are Tim Sample on Aug. 4 at North Waterford Church (tickets available at Books N Things and Bridgton Books) and the history and renovation of the library on Sept. 8 at the library.
