LEWISTON — George L. Belanger, 88, of Lewiston died Monday, July 11, at d’Youville Pavilion.

He was born in Brunswick, June 21, 1923, the son of Alfred and Yvonne (Fournier) Belanger. He was a graduate of Brunswick High School and later served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Florence Sutton on Jan. 11, 1947.

He retired as a supervisor for the City of Lewiston Water Department, where he worked for more than 30 years. He later worked for 10 years at Geiger Bros. until his retirement.

He was a member and the first president of the Local 1458, the American Legion and a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church.

George loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren, where he would attend all their activities. He also enjoyed gardening and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Belanger of Lewiston; his sons, George A. Belanger and wife, Patricia, of Lewiston and John R. Belanger of Connecticut; his grandchildren, Mark Belanger of New York, Michael Belanger of New Hampshire, and Jeff Belanger and wife, Molly, of Augusta; his great-grandchildren, Natalia, Desiree and Jaxson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughters, Constance Belanger and Georgette Peters; and his sisters, Claire Balogh, Theresa Rafael and Edwina St. Pierre.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at d’Youville Pavilion for the wonderful care that was given to George during his 11 years there.
