KINGFIELD — Timber Tina is the face of lumberjills and women in logging sports, and she’s coming to Kingfield this weekend.
Her bio on CBS’s 2006 season of “Survivor” says Tina “Timber Tina” Scheer is the youngest of six children born into a logging sports family, learning how to logroll in Northern Wisconsin when she was seven years old.
Today, she owns and travels with the World Champion Lumberjills and The Great Maine Lumberjack Show. The Trenton-based sports promoter also has been featured in CBS’s “Challenge of the Sexes,” MTV’s “Real World,” National Geographic, Sports Illustrated and Women’s Sport & Fitness. Timber Tina will offer 1:30 and 3 p.m. shows on Saturday during Kingfield Days, which run Friday through Sunday.
This year’s weekend of free events starts in the town center on Friday evening with the crowning of Mrs. Kingfield, an ice cream social, and music by DJ Greg Powers. Most of the weekend events are easily accessible on foot in the village. Saturday starts with children’s pet, bike and doll carriage parades at 9 a.m. A Maine artisans’ fair and local farmers’ market will be located in front of the School House Gallery, and youngsters can have a pony ride and visit the petting zoo behind the Herbert Hotel. At noon the Grand Parade, with this year’s theme “Heroes vs. Villains,” will march down Main Street, and the event can produce some rowdy and creative entries.
A Firemen’s Muster competition starts at 2 p.m. on Depot Street. The “Whatever Floats” parade starts at Lord’s Bridge at 3:30 p.m. The Bad Penny Band will perform in the village center, playing an evening mix of country and rock. Sunday starts with a 5K walk-run. Pre-registration by July 13 is $10; registration is $12 after that. The race begins at Jordan’s parking lot, on the West Kingfield Road. For more information or to register, call 265-2068 or email [email protected]. Proceeds will benefit the Franklin County Animal Shelter.
The Vertical Outlaws, a professional street bike freestyle team, will perform four one-hour shows of high-speed tricks from 1 to 4 p.m. at Jordan’s Track on Tufts Pond Road.
For information, call 265-2700 or 265-5712 or check the Kingfield Days Facebook page.
