LEWISTON — Carl E. “Butch” McDonald, 56, a resident of Packard Road, Monmouth, died late Monday, July 11, at Central Maine Medical Center following a long illness.
He was born May 6, 1955, in Bridgton, the son of Carroll and Janice (Potter) McDonald. He attended school in Monmouth. He worked as a logger in his earlier years and later as a self-employed mechanic.
He was very creative and you never knew what you might find him building. He enjoyed restoring cars. He recently built a ramp truck and had also built four airplanes, which his family chuckled and said, “He actually got in and flew them.”
Carl had a great sense of humor and never let his illness get him down. He had a kidney transplant several years ago and went to dialysis for the past nine years. He took it in stride and considered it his part-time job to go three times a week for four hours a day. He continued to work and do the things that he enjoyed.
Carl was a member of the Bowman Airfield Flying Club in East Livermore and always looked forward to the annual Fly-Ins. Carl especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family. He was a loving and devoted companion, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by those who loved and knew him.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Diane Peters of Monmouth, whom he considered his better half and she always considered him as her better half; his sons, Merle McDonald and his wife, Dawn, of Mount Vernon and C. Luke McDonald and his wife, Heidi, of Monmouth; his daughter, Heather Poussard and her husband, Brett, of Monmouth; Diane’s children, Andrew Peters Jr. and wife, Jaime, of Millinocket and Amanda Peters of Augusta; nine grandchildren; his sisters, Ellen Horton and her husband, Dennis, of Gardiner and Sandra VanWart and her husband, Arthur, of Sidney; his brother, Kenneth McDonald; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Michael and Stephen; and his sister, Louise Cox.
