DOVER-FOXCROFT — Eddie Heikkinen, 68, of 139 Libby Road, Leeds, died Wednesday, July 6, at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, after a short illness.

He was born April 1, 1943, in Livermore Falls, son of Antti and Madeline (Merrill) Heikkinen. He attended schools in Livermore Falls, graduating in 1962. He married Ramona (Wing-McDonald) in 1991.

He was employed at Isaacson’s Mill and Etonic Shoe Co. for many years. He also attended tractor trailer driving school in New Hampshire. He enjoyed fishing and boating and spending time at Popham Beach. His hobbies included watching NASCAR racing and going to Oxford Plains Speedway to watch his stepgrandsons, Kurt, Kyle and Ryan, race. He enjoyed spending his time with Lacy, his poodle, who passed in 2006.

He is survived by his daughter, Tia Knapp of Livermore Falls; four stepdaughters, Brenda Hewins of Auburn, Belinda Amburg and her husband, Cliff, of Livermore and Jill McDonald of Rumford and Elly Decker and her husband, Mark, of Turner; two nieces, Karen Henry of Leeds and Marie Webb of Lake Mary, Fla.; a nephew, Mark Heikkinen of Saco; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ramona Heikkinen in 2005; his father, Antti Heikkinen in 1997; his mother, Madeline Gauthier in 1996; his stepfather, Raymond Gauthier this year; and his brother, Bernard Heikkinen in 2002.
