AUBURN — Students from the Lewiston Regional Technical Center’s electricity program spent several spring days working at an Auburn home.
“This is real world experience,” said Electricity Program Instructor Gerry Castonguay. “If they had been working for a contractor they would have been doing the same work. These opportunities provide hands on training that LRTC and Maine’s career and technical education schools are known for providing.”
Students spent approximately 200 hours working alongside professional contractors, all joining together on the Turner Project. Spearheaded by the American Society of Civil Engineers, area contractors and the City of Auburn pooled resources to assist Jennifer Turner, wheelchair bound since 13, build a home that is ADA compliant.
