NORWAY — A meeting of Stone-Smart American Legion Unit 82 was held April 13 with President Joyce Clifford presiding.

Kim Hansen reported that she had six juniors interested in going to Girl State.

The group voted to send calling cards to one of the service personnel overseas. They will be shared with others. His grandmother is in touch with him and keeps members posted.

Unit 82 voted on officers for the coming year. The president will be Thelma Denlinger; first vice president, Barbara Henley; second vice president, Kathy Nearly; secretary, Joyce Clifford; treasurer, Rose Moulton; chaplain, Christine Weiss; historian, Carmie Rideout; sergeant at arms, Kim Hansen; and the executive committee will be composed of Eleanor Durant, Beulah Ayer and Theresa Dodge.

The group voted to donate to the Norway Girl Scouts to get them started on their community project and to purchase flags for second graders at Rowe School.

The winner of the National Essay Contest, Evin Cameron, was a guest along with his parents and grandparents. He read his essay and was presented with a $50 scholarship check.

Supper preceded the meeting with Ernest Clifford and Ralph Moulton in charge. A spaghetti and meatball supper was served with homemade desserts. Rose Moulton and Joyce Clifford assisted.
