BELFAST (AP) — A Maine woman has pleaded not guilty to a charge of endangering the welfare of a child after a dog killed her 7-month-old daughter.
Twenty-nine-year-old Katrina Mitchell was arrested at her Frankfurt home Wednesday. Police say she was drunk and had passed out the day of the attack, April 12.
The Bangor Daily News reports tests done later that night showed Mitchell’s blood alcohol level to be about .30, almost four times the legal limit in Maine. She also tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
Her daughter Annabelle Mitchell, was fatally mauled by the family’s Rottweiler in the living room while the mother slept on a sofa. Police fatally shot the dog at the request of Mitchell’s husband, Johnny, who was not at home during the attack.
