DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the reader who inquired about Bill Cartmel, his website, www.Billstuff.com, is still current. His phone is listed as 795-1386, email [email protected].
My husband and I have also been record dealers on eBay since 2003, doing business as Melcat’s Vinyl and Collectibles. We occasionally buy record lots locally. We can be reached at 783-7447 or [email protected].
We ask that anyone who contacts us understand that we pay wholesale prices for LPs that are still in excellent condition. Many people have unrealistic expectations for prices from dealers because they may have seen similar records offered at high prices online.
I sell at reasonable prices, spend time and money grading, professionally cleaning, listing and packaging every record I sell. Currently, I have more than 1,700 items listed in my store. Some of them have languished there for several years, and I pay a monthly fee for each item until it sells (then I have to pay the “final value” and PayPal fees).
We’re in business because we love the old vinyl, and we enjoy corresponding with buyers from all over the world, not because we think we’re going to be able to quit our day jobs by selling records. Thanks. — Melanie Ward, Lewiston
ANSWER: Sun Spots did not realize Bill had a website, and she did not know about Melcat’s. Thank you for informing her and her readers.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: We appreciate the July 9 story in the Sun Journal describing the replacement of our 30-year-old heating system. It was well-written. However, it did not note that we are about $11,000 short of the total needed to complete the job. Our fundraising continues, and donations are certainly welcome.
Donations may be sent to the Mexico Congregational Church, UCC, c/o Financial Secretary Shirley Fifield, 163 Main St., Mexico, ME 04257. Peace and blessings. — George Byam, Carol Cantin, George Kimball and Steve Santos, Stewardship Committee, Mexico Congregational UCC
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I always enjoy reading your column! I’m writing on behalf of my son who is in a Lewiston nursing and rehab facility due to a problem with his legs. He enjoys playing chess and was hoping someone out there would drop by when they have the time to play chess with him. He has his own board and weighted chess pieces. The facility has some very nice areas to entertain visitors for games. Call Bruce at 786-5789. He would be happy to hear from you. Thank you. — No Name via email
