WILTON — Carrie (Follett) Brann Harnden, 96, died peacefully on Sunday, July 17, in the comfort of her home on Bryant Road, East Wilton, with family members by her side.
She was born July 3, 1915, in New Sharon, the daughter of Ernest and Belle (Russell) Follett. In 1932, she married Chester Brann and together they raised two children in New Sharon. Chester died in 1967. In 1971, Carrie married Harland Harnden and moved to Wilton and later East Wilton, where she resided until her death.
Carrie attended New Sharon schools and was a homemaker all of her life. She enjoyed her home and took great pride in caring for it. She also enjoyed cooking, knitting, crafts, playing bridge, dancing and eating out with “the girls.” For many years, the family camp on Pease Pond was her pride and joy, always entertaining endless numbers of family and friends.
Boating with the grandchildren, teaching them to swim, settling arguments were all a part of her life at camp. She enjoyed her family.
Over the years, Carrie kept daily journals and created an unmeasurable collection of scrapbooks from newspaper clippings and memorabilia. She was a member of the Messalunskit Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in New Sharon and was a lifelong member of the New Sharon Congregational Church.
After moving to East Wilton, Carrie became known to many as “The Apple Lady,” selling apples from mid-summer to late fall at the Harnden Apple Orchards on Bryant Road. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting the public and could advise the many customers which apple to use for whatever reason.
Carrie is survived by her husband, Harland Harnden of East Wilton; her daughter, Joanna Wyman Page of Wilton; her son, Kenneth Brann and his wife, Frances, of Industry; a stepson, Ben Harnden and his wife, Peggy, of Kingwood, Texas; four grandchildren, Scott Wyman and his wife, Gayla, of Elgin, S.C., Sandra Wyman-Krebs and her husband, Timothy, of Wilton, Keith Brann of Auburn and Kendall Brann and his wife, Joan, of East Wilton; two stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Harnden of Kingwood, Texas, and Michael Harnden, U.S. Army, Kuwait; seven great-grandchildren, Jennica Wyman of Chesterville, Michael and April Wyman of Elgin, S.C., Maureen and Thomas Brann of Auburn and Kaleigh and Kelsey Brann of East Wilton; three great-great grandchildren, Briana, Alexis and Ariana Wyman of Elgin, S.C.; sister-in-law, Mary Follett of Windsor; as well as nieces, nephews and several cousins.
She was predeceased by an infant son, Richard in 1935; her first husband, Chester Brann in 1967; brother, George Follett in 1997; and sister, Clara Follett Brann in 2005.
