LEWISTON — The noonday concert series at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul continues at 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, with a performance by organist Andrea Printy Thomas.

Thomas began her organ career after receiving a scholarship from the American Guild of Organists Boston Chapter when she was 9 years old. She continued her study of the organ with Craig Smith at Groton School in Groton, Mass., and with Ray Cornils at Bowdoin College.

After graduating from Bowdoin with a bachelor of arts degree in musicology in 2008, Thomas spent a summer working for the C.B. Fisk organ company where she had the opportunity to learn about the mechanics of the organ, tuning, pipe-making, and voicing. Her organ education recommenced the following September when she moved to Oklahoma to pursue her masters in organ performance with John Schwandt at the University of Oklahoma. At OU, Thomas studied classical organ repertoire, theater organ, and hymn playing, all while working for OU’s organ shop, the American Organ Institute. She completed her masters in spring of 2010 and hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in musicology in the future.

Andrea has given recitals in New England, Oklahoma, Texas, and in France. She was recently a semi-finalist in the North American Classical Organ Competition. She and her husband Jack currently live in Tyler, Texas where she is assistant organist at Christ Episcopal Church in Tyler, teaches at Tyler Junior College, and accompanies regularly.

Thomas’s  program at the Basilica will include works by Bach, Reger, Guilmant, Bovet and Bridge.

These concerts are free and open to the public. For more information vistit our website at www.saintspeterandpaul.us or call Scott Vaillancourt at 240-9419.
