HANOVER — The Source to the Sea Trek resumes its 19-day, 178-mile paddle following the Androscoggin River from source to mouth on Thursday with a 9.2-mile leg from Hanover to Rumford.
The public is welcome to join the Trek along this relatively calm and beautiful stretch of the Androscoggin. Interested participants may register for the trip at www.androscogginwatershed.org or by calling (207) 754-8158. A $10 donation is suggested to help the Trek’s sponsor — the Androscoggin River Watershed Council — defray the cost of overseeing the trip.
Registered Trek canoeists and kayakers will meet at 9 a.m. on Thursday, behind the Hanover Town Hall on Route 2 to launch their boats. Take out will be at the Rumford boat launch, which is just west of the Rumford McDonald’s on Route 2.
The Thursday trip will include a group of 10 campers and two counselors from the Bryant Pond 4H Camp and Learning Center.
Along the route on Thursday, ARWC staff member Jeff Stern will discuss his brook trout restoration efforts in the area.
The public is welcome to join the Trek on all upcoming segments, including Mexico to Dixfield on Frida, Dixfield to Riley Dam in Jay on Saturday and Riley Dam to Jay’s Otis Mill on Sunday.
