STANDISH — Edward F. Sherwood, 92, of Standish and Lake Monticello, Va., passed away on Friday, July 15. His heavenly mansion was waiting for him.

He was born in Boston, Mass., Sept. 10, 1918, a son of John and Beatrice Huggard Sherwood and graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1936.

Mr. Sherwood enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater service medal and a Bronze Star.

He enjoyed his cottage at Webb Lake in Weld for 46 years as well as his summer home in South Harpswell. For the past 8 years, Mr. Sherwood and his wife spent winters in Lake Monticello, Va.

He was a member at the Mexico Baptist Church for many years and presently a member at Faith Baptist Church in Peru. Mr. Sherwood enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting, feeding and watching birds along with woodcrafts and water color painting.

Working as a butcher, he was employed by Armor’s and in private retail. Mr. Sherwood married Aileen Holman on June 23, 1947 in Mexico.

Surviving besides his wife of 64 years are two sons, Harvey Sherwood and his wife, Nancy, of Standish and Neal Sherwood and his wife, Gwen, of Lake Monticello, Va.; he was pleased to have known two fine boys, Matthew and Daniel as grandchildren; and five beautiful great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Alice Bennett; and two brothers, Walter and Robert Sherwood.

The family extends a special thank you to Hospice of Piedmont, VA and Hospice of Maine of assisting Edward at the end of his life.
