DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am in need of a small 18- to 22-inch butterfly pillow for my neck. The medical store in Farmington closed some time ago. Would there be a store in the Auburn area that might carry these pillows?

Also what has happened to the brand Imodium? No store has it. When one asks, the reply is it won’t be back for a long time. I know there is a generic, but some just don’t work as well as the brand name. Thank you. — No Name via email

ANSWER: There are plenty of options for medical supplies in Southern Maine, including three in this region: Bedard Pharmacy and Medical Supply (currently at 1125 Lisbon St., Lewiston, 784-3700, but soon to be in Auburn), the Medicine Shoppe (373 Sabattus St., Lewiston, 783-3539) and Major’s Mobility (49 Topsham Fair Road, Topsham, 800-570-3393). Both Bedard and the Medicine Shoppe are in the process of expanding their stores and service.

As for Imodium, according to the products’ website (www.imodium.com), there was a recall of one lot of Imodium on June 28. The following notice also appears on the same website:

“Due to a shortage of supply, certain Imodium products are temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience this may be causing you. Your health and comfort are important to us, and we assure you we are working hard to get these products back as soon as possible. We expect to have more Imodium products in stores in the fall of 2011.

“Imodium A-D liquid products are available, but some stores may be currently out of stock. Please use the product locator to find Imodium product at your local retailer.

An online posting on another website said there is a stronger prescription version of this drug, so if you are in need, you can ask your doctor for a Lomotil prescription.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thanks for all you do. Your column is a great asset to our community. Grove Auto sales is proudly hosting the annual yard sale and barbecue to benefit Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends on Aug. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tommy’s works nonstop to aid in the feeding and care of several colonies of needy animals. They provide food, shelter and veterinary care. They are a nonprofit, no-kill small organization that relies on caring community members to aid their personal funding.

This yard sale will have all of the usual finds, and many real treasures you wouldn’t expect ( stained glass, sets of china, and glassware, tools, etc.) that have been generously donated thus far.

This is a rain-or-shine event, with tents for shelter for shopping and lunching.
