LIVERMORE FALLS — A local man who has no driver’s license was arrested early Thursday after the car he was driving snapped a utility pole on Vine Street and he then drove off, police said.
Sgt. Steve Allen arrested Michael A. Cedano, 20, who is staying at a Livermore Falls residence and formerly of New Jersey, on charges of felony aggravated criminal mischief and misdemeanor charges of driving without a license and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.
Allen responded to a report of a loud bang at about 3:30 a.m. on Vine Street and discovered the pole broken in half, wires down and a transformer hanging from a pole, he said. Cedano was arrested at about 4 a.m.
Allen ended up following a trail of leaking vehicle fluids to a residence three streets away on Wheeler Street, Steward said.
Franklin County Sheriff Cpl. Nate Bean and his police dog, Diesel, were able to pinpoint who was driving the car after the dog got into the Dodge Intrepid and then picked Cedano as the driver out of a group of residents standing around, Steward said.
Jay police officer Russell Adams also assisted Allen in the case.
Cedano remained at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn Thursday afternoon. Bail was set at $1,000 cash and he is prohibited from drinking and possessing alcohol, Steward said.
