TURNER — SAD 52 voters defeated both articles in a special referendum Tuesday.
The first article requested approval for bonds not to exceed $600,000 to build a biomass boiler and related improvements for Turner Elementary School and Tripp Middle School, which would not have been undertaken unless the school district received a Department of Agriculture grant for about $500,000.
The vote was 149-244. The breakdown by town was:
— Greene 26-153;
— Leeds 29-46;
— Turner 94-45.
The second article requested approval to issue bonds or notes in an amount not to exceed $315,000 to finance the acquisition and renovation of property to house expanded adult education programming.
The vote was 98-294. The breakdown by town was:
— Greene 6-174;
— Leeds 18-55;
— Turner 74-65.
School district officials will discuss the results at the Board of Directors meeting on Thursday, Aug. 4.
