DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Thursday, Aug. 18, the Ricker Memorial Library in Poland will be hosting a fundraiser, “Dinner Out with John McDonald,” at Cyndi’s Dockside Restaurant on Route 26 in Poland.

The dinner includes salad, entree, dessert and nonalcoholic beverage. Author, storyteller and radio personality, John McDonald comes from a long line of Down East sea captains, and storytellers. For more than 25 years now, John has spun yarns professionally, taking his stories to audiences everywhere.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. The cost is $37.50 per person, part of which is a tax-deductible donation. The evening is sponsored by Northeast Bank, Dunkin’ Donuts, Harvest Hill Farm and Cyndi’s Dockside Restaurant.

For more information and reservations, please call the Ricker Library at 998-4390. Please reserve and pay by Aug. 12 if possible. Thanks very much. — Cathy Tetenman, Ricker Library trustee, cjmtet@fairpoint.net

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For about 10 years every summer, around the second weekend in July, I went on the Lewiston-Auburn Garden Walk. I believe it was sponsored by the Maine Music Society. We were away last summer and missed it. I looked for information on it this year and never saw any. I called the Maine Music Society and got a message that the number was no longer in service. Any idea what’s up? — Garden Enthusiast via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots doesn’t know any details, but she does know it wasn’t held last year. She believes it was due to financial constraints, but would welcome additional information from readers.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the July 20 letter regarding the “Support Our Own” benefit ride and dinner on Aug. 13, the name of the band performing was incorrectly named “Foreplay.” The correct name is actually 4Play. Thank you. — Kerry Gould, [kerryg45@yahoo.com]

ANSWER: This was not Sun Spots’ error, but she understands how it could happen. Many years ago, when she met Mr. Sun Spots, he was driving a Toyota 4Runner, and she, not knowing much about cars, spelled it ForeRunner in a letter home!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Hartford Heritage Society and J & O Irish Museum needs to paint the J & O Irish Museum (Route 140, Hartford). We have many questions on how the job should be done and how much it would cost. Please call Rosie Henderson at 597-2270 if you can offer assistance in our quest. Thank you. — Arlene Nason, cobaltcats@gmail.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: First thank you for helping people on a daily basis. I’ve learned a new craft and would like to continue on with it. It is called quilling.

Unfortunately, due to our limited income I can’t afford to buy new tools and supplies and am looking for used. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who might have those tools and supplies and would be willing to sell them at a reasonable price. —tdeemarie@aol.com, 330-0988

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are Families in Crisis Task Force, a nonprofit organization. We are currently looking for some clothing racks that are free. If you have any information as to where we could get some, please contact Peggy at 357-7072. Thank you! — familiesincrisistaskforce@yahoo.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to help the person looking for used newspapers (July 12). I have to pay for our rubbish to be picked up and would rather put our newspaper to better use. We all know how fast a month’s worth of paper can accumulate. Feel free to email me if interested. Thank you. — Sandy, dubucminot@aol.com
