This is in response to the article July 12 in which an expert spoke about the noise from wind turbines.
I did a little research of my own and found out that the Lennox Elite Series air conditioners, of which there are several models, produce up to 70 decibels of sound. Window fans can produce at least that much noise. Even louder are garbage disposals (up to 80 decibels) and lawnmowers (up to 90 decibels).
Many of these things make noise at night and most are fairly constant, as opposed to a passing car, truck or train, a plane overhead or a crash of thunder.
Wind turbines should be set back from residential neighborhoods, but they should not be considered loud, harmful sources of noise, any more than other noise sources that have been around for a long time.
