JAY — Selectmen will hold their July meeting Monday to discuss a number of issues including sealed bids on various items to a resident who wants to buy a strip of town land.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. July 25 at the town office.
Resident Byron Ramsdell will ask selectmen to reconsider their decision not to sell him a piece of town land, Town Manager Ruth Cushman said.
Ramsdell owns property on Oak Street. He is one of several property owners who had structures that were built or installed on or partially on the town’s property where the Stone Street Baseball Field is located. The properties abut the field.
The structures ranged from 2 to 16 feet over the line.
Voters agreed in December 2010 in a one-time deal to sell two small strips of land to two property owners. The owners also had to split the cost of surveying the land and other expenses.
Others that had property that encroached on the town’s either agreed to tear down a structure or move it.
At the time, Ramsdell decided not to buy the approximately 10- by 150-foot town property and agreed to move the shed, Cushman said previously.
Cushman informed the selectmen in June that Ramsdell had changed his mind and wanted to buy the property.
Selectmen voted then not to sell it to him but gave Ramsdell until July 31 to move the shed.
In other business, selectmen will open sealed bids on transfer station items including Dumpsters. Selectmen discontinued commercial Dumpster pickup service on July 1, and the leftover Dumpsters that no one bought were put out to bid as a whole.
The board will also discuss bids for a roof and cement work for the Fire Department, along with other agenda items.
