Adams reunion

WILTON — The 133rd annual reunion for the descendants of Moses and Martha Kinney Adams was held July 16 at Kineowatha Park. There were 12 members present.

A potluck lunch was enjoyed by all. A business meeting followed.

The oldest member present was Bernard Adams Jr., 94, of Canton. The youngest was Prudy Adams, 41, of Canton.

One death was reported during the past year, Gwen Bessey of South Paris. There were no births reported.

Next year’s reunion will be held July 21 at Kineowatha Park. For more information about next year’s reunion, contact Gary Adams at 645-4013.

Yard sale

FARMINGTON — The “Farmington Big Ole Yard Sale” will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, in the Town Park and Superior Courthouse parking lot, across from Java Joes. Vendors must supply their own tables and can set up at 8 a.m. The fee will be by a donation only. Advanced sign-up is not required, but can be done by calling 779-7741 and leaving a message.

Celebrate ’50s

STRATTON — On Saturday, July 30, The Dead River Area Historical Society will “Celebrate the ’50s,” hosted by Harold and Patricia Simpson. They will show the Garrity’s Drug Store display complete with booth where they used to hang out.

The Historical Society’s special days are not presentations but a gathering of people knowledgeable about the featured subject. On display in the museum are artifacts, manuscripts and photographs that have been donated or loaned by interested townspeople and descendants of original families of the Dead River Region. Collections from 1850 on include old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.

Rock downtown

FARMINGTON — The classic rock band Shepherd’s Pie, featuring many local area musicians, will appear once again downtown center stage at the evening street dance on Broadway from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 31.

Chickadees

SALEM — The Country Chickadees will be at the Salem Community Building at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 31. Please note the new time. Refreshments will be on sale and a donation box will be at the door. Sponsored by The Salem Pine Tree Club.

Flagstaff lecture

RANGELEY — Kenny Wing and Alan Burnell, authors of “The Lost Villages of Flagstaff Lake,” will give a lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at The Wilhelm Reich Museum’s Conference Center on Dodge Pond Road. Burnell will talk about why Flagstaff was created and Wing will talk about the towns and show pictures of Flagstaff, Dead River and Bigelow that are in the book and some that aren’t.

Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Admission for all programs is $10 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Refreshments will be served.

RANGELEY — The next community breakfast with everyone invited will be from 7 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Loon Lodge.

Yard sale

WILTON — As part of the Blueberry Festival weekend, there will be a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at the Wilton United Methodist Church. Anyone having good clean serviceable items, no clothes or shoes, that they would like to donate, may leave them at the church prior to Aug. 3. To arrange for pick up, call Jeff Nadeau at 645-4864.

Cold drinks, coffee and muffins, and new this year assorted choices of whoopie pies, will be offered for sale during the yard sale.

A luncheon will be held Saturday, Aug. 6. Menu includes meatball subs, lobster rolls, chicken salad rolls and egg salad rolls, as well as blueberry desserts.

Lobster, prime rib

VIENNA — A dinner of lobster or prime rib will be held at 4:30 and 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. The event is a building fundraiser for North Vienna United Methodist Church, Tower Road.

Single lobster dinner is $20, twin lobster dinner $25, prime rib dinner $20. Includes garden salad, corn on the cob, homemade bread, blueberry pie or gingerbread and drink.
