AUBURN — Goldie Goldberg, daughter of Charles and Mary Ballaban, passed away at Hospice House on July 21, with her loving family at her side.
She was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y. While raising her family, she was employed as a bookkeeper. She moved to Auburn in 1984 to spend her golden years with her family, who were her complete existence. She lived her life for her children and grandchildren and they are better people for it.
To Goldie, there was no such thing as an in-law, there was no differentiation, you were family. She was loved by everyone who knew her and her family was privileged to have her for 88 years. She was her family’s “Bubbie Goldie.” She touched the lives of everyone who knew her. While it is too often said that someone is one in a million, she truly was.
She is survived by her children, Gary and Margery Goldberg and Marion and Paul Rausch; in addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Amy, Matthew and Holly Goldberg, Daniel and Kristine Rausch, and Melanie and Douglas Goldner; a great-grandchild, Grayce Guimond; and her beloved nephew and niece, Corey and Roseann Ballaban.
Goldie was predeceased by two dear brothers, Jesse and Stanley Ballaban. She lost the love of her life, her husband Irving, with whom she had a 57 year love affair, in 1999.
Her family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the Clover Manor staff, who she considered family in her declining years. A special thank-you is extended to her dear friend, Rena Bourgoin, whose time and companionship meant so much to Goldie. They would also like to sincerely thank Hospice Care and Hospice House.
Goldie was loved and continues to be loved and will never be forgotten. She lives on in her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to everyone who made Goldie’s time in Maine special.
