PARIS — A special town meeting is set for Aug 8 to see if voters will approve a PACE ordinance, which would allow Paris residents to apply for loans from the Property Assessed Clean Energy program administered by Efficiency Maine.

The loans are to be used for energy efficiency work to residents’ homes. To allow residents access to the loans, the town where he or she lives must pass the PACE ordinance, according to an April 2010 law.

The issue was raised when Kerry Read, the owner and resident of a four-unit building in town, expressed interest in using the loan program. She said her building is more than 100 years old and she has seen her heating bills skyrocket to more than $400 a month.

The meeting will take place before the regular Board of Selectmen meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 8.
