RUMFORD — In celebration of Black Mountain of Maine’s 50th anniversary, the Chisholm Ski Club and Black Mountain of Maine have launched an Adopt a Tree program with a goal to plant evergreen trees and vegetation to enhance the appearance of the entire area.

For 50 years, Black Mountain has served the Greater Rumford Area and the ski world. Black Mountain has been given a rebirth and the ability to survive by the foresight of the Maine Winter Sports Center, who recognized the historic value of this community based ski area.

Investments were made in two new chairlifts, new base lodge, maintenance building, paved parking lot and new trails from the summit. This year, the Chisholm Ski Club will finish a world class cross country stadium and trail network, 40 years in the making that has earned it an international reputation. More than $4,000,000 was invested in the area from a Libra Foundation grant.

Those contributing to the program will be memorialized with their name on a plaque in the new base lodge.
