An excavation crew hired by Richard Carrier Trucking Inc. of Skowhegan sifts and removes dirt and glacial till from the site of the old Rumford Drive-In beside Route 2 on Wednesday. A Richard Carrier employee in Skowhegan said the dirt and gravel are being hauled to Carrier’s chip plant in Shelburne, N.H., for use there. The Rumford site will be a parking area for Carrier’s chip trucks, which haul pulp chips from the Shelburne plant to the NewPage Corp. paper mill in Rumford.
