AUBURN — John F. Murphy Homes, Inc. recently received a $3,200.00 grant from the Androscoggin County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation  to provide training for direct line staff to assist people with developmental disabilities to increase their social capital.

This project is based upon the enormous evidence that demonstrates the significance of social capital — the wealth that people have in relationships — in building safe, healthy, prosperous, and democratic communities.

This grant will support efforts to enrich the Androscoggin community by increasing social capital and community engagement for people with disabilities. It will also allow the group to leverage work already done by the Maine Community Foundation in 2000 and 2006, when the MaineCF sponsored the Social Capital Community Benchmark Survey.

John F. Murphy Homes was founded in 1977 to support people with developmental disabilities. Its mission is to provide cutting-edge services that will enable people to maximize the quality of their lives.

A statewide organization with offices in Ellsworth and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation partners with donors and nonprofits to strengthen Maine communities. For more information, visit www.mainecf.org or call 1-877-700-6800.
